There has been a premise in politics over the decades that Americans have had a limited amount of money to spend. That no longer is true. In recent days, we have learned that the US has spent more on this Iraq/Afgan war than on anything ever before, and we are not being asked to raise taxes. The dollar is at an all time low against other currencies but it doesn't seem to hurt the US economy. Interest rates are not going up. There is actually deflation in prices (homes), rather than inflation (except for gasoline, due to overseas inflation). Unemployment is low and steady. This extreme spending without consequese demonstrates there is really no need to make a choice on what to spend the money on, since we can apparantly afford both guns and butter. What are your thoughts?

I'm afraid your over optimistic. The low dollar helped in the past, but our manufacturing sector is so decimated, that we can't take advantage like we could in the past.
If you think deflation in the housing market is a good thing your sorely mistaken, and we've barely seen the tip of that iceberg.
Our work force is propped up by 10,000,000 undocumented workers.
And, foreign powers, especially China, are buying our debt. Think of that. We're paying the communists 4.5% on every dollar we spend in Iraq for the next 10 years.
Still feel so good?

The two-party system sucks. Dems and Repugs are cut of the same rotten cloth. We need more and different parties and somebody other than rich white men who like to profit off our job losses, take away our civil liberties, and play military general like it's a cute fun game of Battleship.

And we mustn't forget, CORPORATIONS are government. They've got their hand in everything.

We'll never have true democracy until more people start voting for third parties.
