My gf lives in a pretty safe neighborhood but she doesnt feel safe. After school she is the 1st one home and she always pushes open the door and looks around b4 she goes in. when i asked her she said its always been a fear that someone would be in her house. I thought that was funny and i laughed but i dont think its funny any more. Not too long ago i read about this daycare worker, she went inside the daycare and this guy was in there and he raped her, im pretty sure he killed her too but i cant remember it wasnt even like a huge story anything.

I live in a nice neighborhood, but just last week, a man and his son were killed in their home in an extremely nice neighborhood across town. It doesn't matter where you live, I have discovered that.

I'm at home alone a lot with my two children. My husband works out of town pretty much all of the time. I have alarm on both of my doors. I sleep with a can of pepper spray on my nightstand. I always have a phone close by. I deadbolt the doors at all times when I'm inside.

I do everything that I can possibly do to ensure our safety, but there are still some nights where I hear a weird noise...or my cat starts acting strange, and I get a bit paranoid.

For the most part though, I do feel safe.

I never feel safe when I'm alone. I used to, but when I was 13 I was raped by someone that I thought I could trust, and now I don't feel safe. One thing I'm thankful for is that even if I was raped, it wasn't a random attack by a stranger who could have killed me after. Still, I only feel safe when my boyfriend or older brother is around. Other than that, I'm really paranoid, but I guess that's probably a result of being raped. I hope your girlfriend is able to feel safer at home, but tell her to be careful, and if something feels off in her house tell her to run to the neighbor's and call 911.

We don't live in the times we can leave our doors unlocked. You have to be extra cautious when someone knocks on your door. Alot of the problem is media and pushing the fear. You hear all the time about someone robbing, beating someone up, blah, blah blah. Did you know 8 out of 10 times, most crimes are done by someone that knows you?? The random acts are just that and are so very random of someone getting attacked by someone they don't know, your more likely to hit the lottery before that happens. As for that guy that raped the daycare worker. He knew her. He watched her pattern everyday. That is how he was able to pull that off. I would bet a million it was not just a random attack. If your girl is so worried, encourage her to take a self defense class. It will give her the confidence in case of any attack.

I don't. All my doors and windows are locked. Whenever I enter a room that is dark or has the door closed, I always bring my dog with me. Whenever I go outside, I look around first and then I am constantly on the watch when I am out there. I always have my keys on hand when I get to my door so that I can walk right on in. Before I get to my car I always have my keys in hand and my pepper spray at hand. After I enter my car I lock my door immediately for fear that a gunman will hop in the passenger side. I make as few errands alone as possible. I pray every time I leave my house and every time I go to sleep. I always call people when I go somewhere and will tell them that I will call when I get back. It is a scary world that we live in. No one is safe.

No I don't feel safe at all. I used to walk outside, after a few bad experiences, I bought a treadmill, so I could walk in the safety of being inside. I always look over my shoulder & in the back seat of my car before I get in it. When I get home, I look around to make sure it is the way I left it.
I live in a nice neighborhood, but that does not protect you.
Sorry to say, I never feel safe.

The world is pretty evil nowadays. Its hard to be a girl because so many guys lust after us and want the wrong thing. Some of us have trouble feeling safe in relationships. I mean, I can't even walk to my car in a parking lot at night before calling my mom or a guy friend so someone will be talking to me. Its scary business. I hate staying at home alone!! My 'safety thing' is my cats, if they're loungin around like nothings wrong, I know its safe, but if they're hiding or scared, then I am too!

I don't feel safe at all. I live in vegas and my house gets robbed alot and I do look around when I go in my house. My neighbor and the guys that keep robbing us continue to stalk me and sit outside my house watching my every movement. Im terrified to walk outside and I cant even watch the news anymore because there is always something that happened in my neighborhood. I have to shut my blinds all of the time because when I open my blinds, I sometimes see the car with the ppl that stalk me outside my house and freak out. Vegas is horrible.

I feel safe in the house, but I ALWAYS keep the door locked so nobody can walk in from outside. We had kids down the street (ages 12 - 14) try to get into cars and homes to see what they could take.

I feel very safe at home. Probably because we live way out in the country and have only 2 neighbors and their all 5 miles away and we know them and they work for the same ranch as us.
Your girlfriend is just a little paronoid, has she talked to her parents about this? Maybe theres something that they can do to help her feel safer.

Honestly I am a woman and I don't feel safe in America. Not only because I am a woman but because I am an American Muslim woman and am discriminated against because of my religion. If it's possible then go and ask her parents to let you go with her to her house until her father or brothers get home from school or work.
