Has anyone else had Qwest tell them that they can't provide high speed internet to their address while neighbors one street over can get it? Or right across the street?

It all depends on how the telephone lines were run when the neighborhood was built.

In many cases the distances from the local office are vastly different. In our neighborhood the houses across the street are fed from a box on the opposite end of the block! That puts them several hundred feet further from the "main" switch which makes DSL not possible due to the distance. (The neighbors aren't happy but that is the way it works.)

In my case I just upgraded to a business class line (actually three of them), setup a neighborhood access point, and sell wireless access! (Since I was doing that as a business in a more rural area nearby it just made since!) SO LEAP on the opportunity and become an ISP! *Your neighbors who can't get DSL will love you for it!

i have heard it all the time - it is because your local phone company has not ran the wires for dsl on one side of the area because they have not got enough demand from you neighbors = not enough money to get return on their investment.

Its a sad day when companies put their profits over customer satisfaction which is directly connects to their profit line.

no wonder qwest is not doing as well as it used to.

It relies upon what's on your section. for instance, the position i'm, Verizon has FiOS and there is Comcast/Xfinity, neither of which require a telephone line. those are not tied to a cellular telephone plan both. there is also ideas the position you are able to get a cellular telephone plan that both instruments up a wireless hotspot or enables you to tether your computer/computing gadget to the cellular telephone...surely utilising the cellular telephone for internet get top of entry to.
