I can't let my family go but everyone makes me sad. there is always tension, my spouse is always yelling. I am so used to being sad and unhappy how can I change that? What can I do, I take antidepressants, and something for my nerves, but I just can't seem to be happy and feel good. How do you just say "I am gonna be happy and be that way?

The antidepressants and the "something" for your nerves won't do the job alone. You need to talk with someone. Perhaps some professional help would be in order here; or maybe counseling from your clergyperson. You just need some help getting untangled from all the stuff weighing you down. It would also be helpful to talk with your spouse about the yelling. Is it really necessary?

You need to realize that, despite whatever problems you have, things could be so much worse. Starvation, physical pain, disease, real poverty, murder, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, earthquakes, there are so many horrible things in the world, that I thank God daily that I face such relatively small problems.

Good luck, and look for the silver lining.

psychiatrists sometimes dont help much, but then again the one i went to wasn't good. go to one, or try to keep yourself busy so you wont reflect on the sadness. go out with friends too, or even alone so you dont feel trapped & only talk with people you trust about your depression. people that have never been badly depressed may not understand and can make you feel worse.

my suggestion. Cry your eyes out till you can't dry any more. Then take a nice long nap. once you wake up take a nice refreshing shower and say to your self this is it this is a new start. if you get upset exercise or take a class.
