Is your CD-ROM drive parallel? Can you set your computer so that it will talk to a SATA HD and a parallel CD-ROM drive? You'd need to check the settings at boot-up time, of course.

If you can't set your computer so that it can talk to serial and parallel drives at the same time, then you might need an external CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that connects via USB, since the USB channels should still work.

The CD ROM drive WAS drive D, probably. Now that you've added another hard drive, the CD ROM drive is drive E.

Your command to the computer is to "look in drive D for the CD" when it's actually in drive E.
