What most people don't realize is that Macs and PC's (like Sony) are made for totally different things.

Basically, Macs are tools for people who work in the arts (graphic designers, animators, etc.). It used to be that Macs had definite advantages over PC's for that kind of work.

IOn the other hand, don't worry about not being able to find software for a Mac. It'll be ok. You'll learn how to use it really quickly, too - they're very intuitive (I've had both).

Today, though, you can buy most programs for either platform. If you're not in an arts-related field, I'd go with the Sony...it will do everything you need it to do and more, and be a better deal than a Mac.

*The new one's come in pink, too!

Good luck.

Both Macs and Sony are overpriced for what you get. In terms of reliability, HP is your best bet. Many other manufacturers tend to go through cycles. They will make good laptops for a while, and then they will cheap out and make bad ones. When sales takes a dive, they wake up and focus more on quality, until some figures out how to cut a corner (which inevatilbity sacrifices quality).

Only about 1/4 of the software that runs under Windows runs on MacOS x. Having said that, recently, Mac has started using Intel CPUs, and you can install and run Windows on them. I'm not sure why you would want to buy a more expensive computer and then have to buy Windows on top of that. It would come in handy, however, if you have Mac and Windows programs you need to run.

PS: Sony has really crappy "key travel" on their latest models. Apparently they expect most people to buy external keyboards, because the built in ones stink.

Most programs are written for PC. Macs do have a limited variety of software available for them.

If computing out of the mainstream is what you want to do, a Mac could be the right choice.

We'll look forward to your "Mac laptop for sale" ad in a few months.

Really depends on what you wanna do on the laptop. But personally I'd say Macs?

Most programs are not converted to Macs....only if they're really popular or something. But you can get the Mac and have dual OS's with Bootcamp that comes with it...so you can use both PC and Mac programs.

=)

very few programs run on macs. while macs are designed well, i would recommend an acer or toshiba for a laptop, or hp for a desktop/tower pc due to compatibility for programs.

Mac is the better laptop and everything you need will run on it. There is a lot of great software written for Macs.
Macs can run Windows too.

MAC!!! It is a hard switch from a pc, but once you get used to it it is SO worth it. It last so much longer because macs never get viruses like pc's easily do. It may be more expensive, but it will save you from buying another one in 3 years.
