As far as presenting the case, the prosecution always goes first. When the prosecution rests, the defense starts.

As far as quesitoning the witnesses, the side that called the witness goes first, then they other has the opportunity to cross examine. They go back in forth with the quesitons, until both sides are done. This applies to the questioning of an individual witness only, not the presentation of the case.
