I have thus far avoided answering directly by saying she is sweet (she is) or commenting on her pretty curly hair, but why is my friend pressing the issue? Should I lie and just say she's pretty when she literally looks like a stand-in from the movie Gremlins?
Hey- before you attack me, I've been there. I never tried to force anyone to say my not-so-cute baby was attractive, because I knew he wasn't! I know that her baby is a gift and I love them both to death, but I just wish she would drop the subject!

come on! the baby is a gift of life, don't trash talk her! geez! and YES, lie if you have 2. its the right thing to do. for example, if someone asked if u think she has a good singing voice, and you think its horrible, you don't say "omg! u have the worst voice i've ever heard! that was horrible!" instead, you say something positive, like "wow, i bet that if u took singing lessons you could become famous!" and then u would change the subject. same with the baby question! next time she asks u if u think her baby is cute say, "yes, she is! when she gets older, she will be even more cute!" or something to that effect! lol omg, did u REALLY even have 2 ask that question? well, anyways, i hope i helped to point out the VERY obvious to u. good luck! ;)

Hi,
I know how she must feel, especially if she is a first time mother.
No one is more tough on the way their baby looks than the mother. She probably already knows that it is unattractive and is looking for support from her loved ones around her.
I personally would say that the baby is cute, because I would dearly love to hear that from my friends and family especially if my child was less than perfect.
Can you be charitable enough to say it just once? It may genuinely mean a lot to her...
Best of Luck!

I personally would turn the tables around on her and the next time she says "do you think my baby is cute" I would say "why are you always asking me that? don't you think your baby is cute?" and then she would either answer "of course" and you could say "well, then what does it matter if I think she is cute or not" but then if she says "well...I'm kinda worried that she is not" then you know where she stands on her child and can answer accordingly, maybe turn it into a small joke, but nothing mean and reassure her that all babies go through and ugly stage, my daughter hit hers at about 6mths, big head with a big forehead and small facial features, finally the rest caught up and she is gorgeous now. but it sounds to me, that if your friend is constantly asking she herself may have some doubts.

Well tell her that hes cute in her own way by saying that youll avoid lying but if she continues to persis than tell her she has a cute baby. Because it will just couse trouble w/ you friends if you told her the truth besides a couple of white lies is not bad. Besides no baby can that be that ugly.

Ouch..touchy subject. I too resort to "isn't he a darling" or "awwwwwwwwwwwww" when I see a baby I don't think it's cute. It's rude for your friend to keep pressing the issue - perhaps she wants confirmation for something she might be questioning herself. In any case, if all else fails, I wouldn't ruin a friendship by answering her truthfully (I know... that's bad). If she doesn't give up, just relent and say "yes." If you need some justification for lying, here it is - cute, while generally referring to something attractive, can also be used to describe something "precious."

I know how you feel. I know not every child is the cutest when it's born...
i would just lie and say yeah she's adorable, and if she doesn't drop it, tell her to stop fishing for compliments.
or when she says isn't she so cute... you could say so cute, she look like a little gremlin, and make it sounds like you are giving her a cute little nickname. say she's ugly in a cute nice way that the mom will think you are being playful...
pick her up and say who's my little gremlin.... and kiss her. then when you see her, say how my little gremlin...
she's probably just proud of her new baby, but tell her it's getting old.
tell her if she wants compliments go take the baby to the mall... she will get stopped by a million people cooing over her baby.
that would get annoying....

Treat others how you would like to be treated, so the question is, would you want someone to out right say your baby in not cute? I believe the answer would be no you wouldn't. If you value your friendship, i would just go with just agreeing with her, this is a true white lie.

I would do the same. Comment on the pretty features. Such as hair, dimples, etc. She would know if you are lying. Not to be mean but she probably thinks the same that you are thinking. We all know that not all babies are cute so I don't want to hear that. Just say, "Wow, she's gotten so big", or "that outfit is so cute on her", Don't lie though.

I know what you mean, the same thing happened to me.
You may think I am a bad person, but what I would do, is lie.
Just tell her that her baby is cute and she will most likely quit bothering you.

Your friend might have the awful feeling that her baby isn't cute. I would lie to her and say that she is adorable. I have no idea how bad it would feel to be told your baby is ugly. I wouldn't say too much about the baby not being cute to other people too. You probably wouldn't want your friend to know that you lied.
