when we talked about this in school, it reminded me of an email on myspace and its about what has happened to the world and it had a pic that said " why do we kill thoses who kill to show that its wrong to kill?" and that made me actually think about what its saying and it made a good point.

killing is wrong. (Abortion only in the cases of incest, rape or harm to the mother)
The problem is innocent people are released from death row all the time, and it is obvious that we have executed innocent people, so who avenges their murders? If you want further reason against the death penalty:
Death penalty trials cost an average of 48% more than the average cost of trials in which prosecutors seek life imprisonment. It is actually more expensive to kill someone. With at least 2 lawyers mandatory for most death penalty case, and appeals that go for years it becomes more expensive to kill someone than keep them in prison. Also, every month you see people exonerated by DNA evidence and they were on death row. Statistics show that 10% of inmates on death row are innocent, and leads you to believe that we have therefore executed innocent people. There is in all states "Life without the possibility of Parole" which means that inmate will NEVER interact with society again. IF there is even the possiblity of killing an innocent person, don't you think that is grounds enough for a moratorium on the death Penalty? And are we to teach people it is wrong to kill by killing people? Taking a life is taking a life, regardless of what "title" someones carries who commits the murder. And the part I love about the people who answer this questions is those who support the death penalty and are screaming for someone to be killed, hoping and wishing for another persons death, "its wrong to kill so we must kill them!"..that is absolutely rediculous. It also strikes me as amusing that the so called "Pro-Lifers" who picket abortion clinics (and sometime s blow them up and kill doctors and nurses) and say abortion is wrong are usually the people screaming for someone to be put to death.

"why do we kill thoses who kill to show that its wrong to kill?"

What you have there is an example of a straw man argument. You essentially put words in your opponent's mouth, stating a position that he doesn't hold but which you would find easy to argue against.

We don't execute the killers to show that killing is wrong. Killing is not necessarily wrong. In fact, in certain circumstances killing may be the most right thing to do. Killing in self defense or to protect someone else are good examples.

We execute killers because it is deemed the punishment most fitting for their particularly horrible crime and to permanently remove them from society so they can never do such harm again.

Yes I support the concept of a death penalty, provided no innocent person is ever executed. Barring that I could just as easily accept real life imprisonment.

definite that is Biblical. The dying penalty grew to become into wide-unfold as a human judicial regulation via the God Yahweh Himself and is one in all His Mosaic rules which lots of those rules have been judicial rules for a rustic to run that is government via. that is objective grew to become into to the two eliminate the regulation breaking guy or woman from society and scare something of the folk into controlling their movements in the different case the comparable might ensue to them. Yahweh Himself is being quoted interior the Bible conversing and coaching this dying penalty regulation to Moses after the Israelites exodus from being slaves of Egypt. The dying penalty grew to become into and nonetheless is seen a justified killing of a convicted criminal and not an act of homicide interior the eyes of our God.

I believe in the death penalty as an idea, however I do not support how it is practiced in America. Non whites who commit crimes against whites are 5 times more likely to get the death penalty than whites who commit crimes against non-whites. There is also the problem that over 150 people have been convicted, sentenced, killed, and then cleared of the charges because of DNA evidence. Not to mention the fact that a death penalty sentences are automatically appealed, at a high cost to tax payers.

Edit: I forgot to add that death penalty laws do not do anything to discourage crime.

This is a tuff question the nation is split on...like abortion

I personaly think its a bad and stupid law...

For example:

1. What if someone was inocent, you just killed a inocent person

2. Its funny how people in this country are die hard christians and yet they choice to kill others and call it justice

3. The only reason they have the death penalty is to save money in the jail system

4. I don't know about you, but when I die, I don't want to have blood in my hands

I know there's evil people in this world, but what's the good side about this law?? I rather have them spend there rest of there life in jail...that's a real punishment

I do believe in it. To me, the point is not to prove what is right or wrong, nor is it an effective deterrent. In my opinion the idea is to remove those who are a danger to society, and I can't feel that it is equitable to support them in prison for their entire life when many in our country don't live as well as the average death row inmate.

Yes I do , If you murder someone then you have shown you have no regard for the life of another then your life should be forfeit , also if you are a rapist or a child molester , or a habitual criminal you have shown you are no use to society and are nothing but a rabid animal and should be put down .

No and I'm a person who's husband and brother were murdered. I don't think that anyone has the right to kill anyone no matter who it is!!! I have told my daughter's that if it happens to me I want them to let the DA know that I didn't believe in the death penalty. Unless you are God who gives life you don't have the right to take life!!!

is it OK to hit someone that hits you? is it OK to steal if someone has stolen from you?
is it OK to lie to someone if you've been lied to?
This is probably over simplifying the matter.

I think the victims family members should make the ultimate decision as to whether a murderer spends life in jail or is killed. If you were murdered would you want your murderer to be killed or spend life in jail?

I believe if you do a horrible crime you should be punished. if you do something so bad that the death penalty is an option then so be it.
