And it's not just on clocks either. I went to the mall yesterday, and i was waiting in line at a store, and the person in front of me was paying, and i heard the cashier go "your change is $4.11." it seems like everywhere i go, i see 11 on something. Is this just a huge coincidence, or does it mean anything? what about the 9:11?

This is a phenomenon known as confirmation bias.

The human brain has a strong tendency to recognise patterns, even when they're not really there. Some scientists think this is because of our early evolution on the savannah: it helps to recognise a pattern that might be a lion, for example.

All it means is that you notice the .11 occurrences more, because you already think there is a pattern. How many times have you stood in a line and the person in front of you was paying .12 or .13? You don't know, because you haven't thought about it. But every time it's .11, you recognise it, and add that occurrence to the pattern. It's self-reinforcing.

I had this with the time 11:17 for years but not recently.

What it comes down to is what I call the recency effect - basically if the same combination happens by chance more than twice in fairly quick succession (which over a whole lifetime is pretty likely to happen at least once), your brain wrongly tries to make sense of this by trying to find a pattern. Therefore your brain is thereafter on the lookout for the finding the combination again - therefore it is a self-fulfilling prophecy - you only notice the number 11 because your brain is always looking for it. If it was possible to do an analysis of whether this actually came up more often than other numbers, I would put my money on "no"

Not crazy at all!

I have the same thing with the number 22 i.e. I always catch the time at 22:22 every night and then 22 minutes past every hour. When I got to check how long on washing machine, its 22 mins. I look down at my stereo in car and the song has played for 2.22. I was counting my change other day and it was 2 pound 22 cents! Oh and when I first noticed it I was dating a guy born on the 2nd of Feb!

I have pointed it out to friends and they think its weird.

The funny thing is, I've always described my life as a catch 22! No win situation and now this keeps happening :)

The number 11 is a door to spirit world and 11:11 to heaven. 411 or 114 usually is angels about you. 9 is the number for new life. I do not believe in coincidence you are going on a new path. Usually is a spiritual growth. Start praying that you can handle it and learn the lessons fast.

It's just a consistent pattern your brain recognizes. You look at the clock at more often that at the :11 times. but because you regularly recognize the fact that it's constantly 11 your brain holds these numbers in memory and other numbers that don't include 11 are simply forgotten. It's simply part of the human brain.
