Does heppened sound like happened? In some variants of "Southern Drawl", these sound the same. My friend from Atlanta drives me in circles with "pen" and "pin".

Not in the U.S., no. I could see how in other English-speaking countries they could sound similar because of the accent. Most notably I think Australians would maybe say those similarly.

sort of the beginning and end sound the same but the middle doesnt unless u repeat it a bunch of times

I "gas" you could say they do. But when I fill my car up with "guess" I do think about it. LOL.
