Go to http://www.crucial.com and run a scan. It will show what type of memory is compatible with your laptopand take note of the type it supports.

The problem is not where to buy the RAM but rather what RAM to buy. You first have to find out what RAM your computer uses. To do this, you can use a free program like Lavalys' Everest Home edition to display all the hardware installed on your laptop. Once you have identified the type of RAM your laptop uses, you can buy it from an online retailer (e.g. Newegg) or your local computer store (e.g. Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples...etc.). It is best if you stick with the major brand names, such as Crucial, Kingston, Mushkin, and PNY. You will get a much better price at online stores than your local computer store. Usually, you pay 30 -50% less at online stores. I recommend www.newegg.com.

1. You can download Everest home edition at (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Everest_Home/1086844970/1).

2. Other free utilities include CPU-Z (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/CPUZ/966149377/1)

go to http://www.crucial.com - just left click this link and check for free offer to test yr ram - it will tell you everything you ever need to know abt yr memory system including WHAT IS NEW TYPE OF RAM THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH YR COMPUTER - go always with this new type of ram because it operates on higher frequency than yr existing ram meaning it moves more data in shorter period of time equals better performance - you can buy ram right there or in compusa or best buy with that info -also note to install ram ALWAYS in pairs of equal type and value that way yr computer will get max performance otherwise if you mix it you can get actually lower performance - if you go with newer type ram you'll have to discard yr existing ram but ram is
