Was still in the work force, so until the last year or less in the only time I can attest too. I'd be a heck of a lot more creative and useful if'n it weren't fer this dadburn addiction (maybe that's why many oldsters are afraid to get hooked by it -- powers of observation)

Before I got a computer I wrote occasional letters. And I
talked on the phone. I cleaned house more, and I ironed much
of our clothes. I also found time to garden and plant things.
I was also a smoker then. And found plenty of time to indulge
the habit.
I also would hit thrift stores that carried more new donations
and would go to several in one day, looking for new clothes and shoes I could wear. Or find things I could use in the
house. I looked for clothes for our grandson and I also went
to the library to check out books on local history or the 1800's
in other areas.
I went out more often for lunch and dinner. And I took things
to consignment shops and sold things and occasionally
bought some as well. I went for drives into the country and we
went to visit other friends.
And whenever there were errands to run, we both went.
Now I tend to stay home more than go out, due to mobility
problems. And stay on the computer when I have no tasks
to do. And often I put the tasks aside til later or the next day.
Now I'm a computer junkie and I can't help myself LOL.

I had a live in job grooming racehorses. Had an injury, went homeless, was fist "exposed" to the PC in a womens shelter 3 years ago & learned how to send simple emails. Before the internet came along , I was able to have a life outside & now I stay where it's safer for me to share my experiences with others. I worked everyday of my life since the age of 10, so the internet was something that only white collar workers & students had access to in my mind. I think learning how to use a cell phone is harder than the internet.

Sometimes I WONDER! lol

I guess I addressed envelopes; wrote checks; licked stamps; drove to the bank; stood in line; went INTO retail stores to shop; went to the library/bookstore; read encylopaedias; wrote letters; talked on the phone and spent an inordinate amount of time reading travel books!

Now I do all those chores/tasks on the internet.

The very BEST thing the www has done for me is allow me to find long last friends! THAT has been a true blessing :-)

the internet started gaining ground around 1995. but it really started to catch on around 98 or so. i was only 15. i remember talking on the phone a lot as opposed to going on AIM. i played my super nintendo/n64/ps1 instead of computer games. i went to the store to look at things instead of researching it online. i watched tv a lot more than i do now. i think i would be watching a movie right now if there wasnt a yahoo answers!

I never had time for the Internet, I was always out teaching Linedance classes, or walking the dogs, looking after the family. In my down time I had my nose in some book or other.

I was outdoors more so the internet has turned me pale. I don't know, I watched television more and read more books. Is the internet really a good thing for us? I ask you.

Sat in front of the "new" computer and talked on the phone with friends while we explored all the things we could do. We also troubleshooted each other's tech problems (circa 1981-82!).
