Truth of the matter is this. I found a couple people that are selling videos (DVD's, VHS) and things like that. Both of these people have a lot of things I would like to buy, but I don't have the money to put out at this moment. I am a graphic/web designer and that's where this thought comes in.

Let me first explain these websites. The first website was posted by a guy who is offering copies of videos in his collection to other people who share the same interests as him. His site is very plain jane...one page, text only. The next guy doesn't even have a website. I found him on a "classifieds" site and to get a listing of all his stuff, I need to email him. It seems like It's almost an ebay store kind of thing.

Is it completely inappropriate to ask these people if I could design websites for them in exchange for certain videos in their collection? In otherwords, my "payment" would be receiving these videos instead of money.

Need honest opinions so I don't make a fool of myself

I think its a great idea..both people get something in return..as a matter of fact..your services would def. be worth more then any dvd or videos..I say you go for it..they could always say no..but still a good idea in my opinion..:)good luck!

Of course, it's like 600 BC all over again. Money is a relatively new instruments and it's most powerful benefit is eliminating the double coincidence of wants (i.e. you want DVDs from a DVD owner and the DVD wants a website from a website designer). Offer it to him - if he doesn't want it, rent out your services to someone who wants a website in trade for $$$ and give the $$$ to the DVD guy.
