because you have catchy untalented bands selling and being played alot, im not a fan of the current trend of rap and emo becaue there really is no artistry involved, just the generic sound and typical sad song that really proves the notion of if kids like it then it will sell

I think i love you, Recommend Anyone. Finally another person with a bit of common sense.
I can think of heaps of bands from the last ten years or so that i'd much rather listen to than Pearl Jam.
Think Interpol, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Flaming Lips, Hot Chip, Low, The National, Primal Scream, TV on the Radio, White Stripes, etc etc etc.
I'm not saying that everyone has to like these bands more than older bands, you're allowed your own opinion, but saying that music 'sucks now' in such a definitive tone is just ignorant.
I think what you mean is why are there no bands making music exactly the same as music that was made in the early 90's. The answer to which is, of course, it's not the early 90's anymore. Music has progressed and changed since then. Obviously the same can't be said for your taste in music though.

and music sucks because well no one has creativity when rock came out in the 60's and 70's music WAS the expression now all this music is scremo and grindcore and guitar that sounds like shitt its like the 80's except maybe worse

Music doesn't suck right now. The stuff that's played on mainstream radio might suck, but that's the fault of marketers, not musicians. Open your mind, go to a show, pick up some independent label samplers, try a little harder than turning on corporate radio during your commute.

I couldn't disagree more! Blue October, Incubus, Godsmack, Hoobastank, Finger 11, Velvet Revolver are just a few newer rock bands that are awesome! You're just not listening to the right stuff. Or are you turning into one of those people that will always live in the past and no matter what comes out it will never measure up to what you grew up listening to? Like the 50 year olds I work with that stopped listening to new music in 1975. GOD....I never want to be like that!!!

You're ignorant. Most of the bands are indie rock and obscure. Despite this, there are good mainstream bands. Maybe they're not of your taste, but I'm sure there's something there that's good. Whenever people ask "Why does today's music suck?" or anything related, it makes me think classic rock listeners are snobby morons that think only classic rock is good. And I love classic rock, but some classic rock bands suck too!

Because the definiton of rock seems to have gone down hill.

All the rock bands, have seem to either converted to pop, or have just broken up.
And rap, what can I say about rap? Rap is just a sorry excuse for music, and unfortunatly...an easy way for record labels to sell records. All people care about these days are exploiting women, and cheesey videos with hookers shaking their' asses in front of cameras.

That my friend, is why music is so screwed up right now.

becuase the music companies follow trends of sales so the music scene is controlled by the teens of the era.
most of the new music coming out is just copies of other bands but when was the last original band?
most older bands come to realize the trend of teens and write music to make the teens buy thier albums.
wich is they write what i call p@@#y music.
most have forgotten the need to just rock out and let it all go,screw the companies and critics.
very few songs these days have that sound that you know will reverberate through time and make the teens 20 years from now rock out so keep the oldies and crank em up....the new stuff wont cut it for the long haul.
btw nirvana sucked and so does jackson, timberlake and the rest of the pop posers!!

90s music and rock and other genres was the bomm back then they rapped about their lifestyle, they sang about love and sang about what they went through now their singing about crap and rapping about crap that dont mean nothing its because its a new error and everybody didint go through the stuff to sing it or rap about it so music sounds like crap cause their lifestyles are SFo good and perfect theres no obstacles back then for an example if youran cheated write a song about that but now people are scared to be exposed they want everybody to think their life is perfect when thats not the case.
