Has your stance on marijuana changed at all now that your older? If your view has changed. At what age did that take place?Do you think youth are just wasting themselves away when they use it today?

I'm just curious, because I have some friends who smoke it on like a weekly or so basis( I do it about once every 2 or 3 months , but think its waste energy to use for daily recreation) and they look completely fried and idiotic. Its also depressing to seem them so non-functional.

I don't know of anyone who didn't smoke pot during the days
of hippies and flower power and bra burning. But those who
smoked pot didn't have to worry about it being laced with
alot of harmful additives that are often found in it now. In those
days, people often grew their own. And it was pure leaves and no stems or seeds or laced with anything foreign. You
got a simple high, and you got the munchies and that was it.
Not much different than having a couple of drinks. From
what I've read, you can find pot laced even with LSD, or
something equally bad. So it's something I'd leave com-
pletely alone. I wouldn't purchase it from anyone, unless
you knew the person and that he grew his own. The risks
taken today for a high, usually have bad consequences.
And your life isn't worth anything, once you're dead or
comatose.
Your last sentence should say it all to you. Be glad you
aren't heavily addicted, and just leave well enough alone.
Go back to the beer and wine and keep your sanity and
well being. Live to be 90, and live to be safe.

Seriously.....I tried it.....I did inhale....it didn't do anything for me except make me want to eat. Stuff like a banana with corn flakes stuck at the bottom with cocoa puffs in the middle and fruity pebbles rolled at the top with a side of doritos and onion dip. Followed by a whopper, a duncan donuts bavarian creme donut and a mushroom pizza from pizza hut and a fudge bar.

I smoked something laced with something.....I sat like a stone for hours. These are the words I said hours later......."High is when you don't where you are ,until you get there, and then you forget".....followed by more hours of silence.

I liked neither state. But one thing I know for sure.....people who smoke pot don't get violent, don't rape people, don't kill people. If there is an altered state that should be acceptable.....this would be the one.

Not to mention it does have proven medicinal purposes as well.

MJ is NOT my choice but I would pick it above alcohol or any other substance people use for recreation or as an answer for other medical problems. I believe it should be legal........there's alot more dangerous substances out there that do nothing.

I mean I did smoke it 2 times and it does nothing for me. Well....it did something....just nothing I wanted. If it was legal....I still wouldn't buy it. But I do know the benefits outweigh the risks and totally believe it should be legal.

Ah, the 60s and 70s. That was a time of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Smoked a lot of pot then and it was fun, a lot of fun. But I failed out of engineering school and did nothing of significance.
80's: just recreationally with friends.
90's: just stopped doing it (actually at some point in the 80s), I went back to school and got a BS in computer science and in the 00s a master in education.
What lesson do I draw from that, each in his or her own time.
Many of these kids who are heavy users will stop when the fun fails and when life forces them to move on. For the ones that don't, I have only seen two possible courses. They can have a life and a functional one, or sink lower into drugs.
Personally, I don't miss it but don't condemn those who find it recreationally satisfying.

I smoked it in the late 60's early 70's, but only for a couple of years. I found that it was making me sleepy and I wanted the munchies all the time. It's also hard to carry on a conversation.
I do not condone using it while at work or while driving, due to the impairment. Some people can not handle any kind of drugs, and it could lead to other more dangerous drug use.

One of the people on here said that pot is illegal. Since when? ...lol I know people who have been smoking it since the 50's and have always been fine, upstanding, productive citizens. My kids smoke(d) it and so do my grand kids and most of their friends. In 50 some years of experience around the "drug culture" I have never heard of anyone dying from a pot overdose. One of the major problems I have is with the governmental moralists and naysayers and their hypocrisy. These same people who for years flogged us with the "Red Scare" seemed to have no problem with appointing a "Czar" (thank you Mr. Reagan) to head up the war on drugs, costing us billions in tax dollars. By the way, how's that working for you? The anti-pot laws were initially set up to allow law enforcement people to have an easier way to arrest Black and Mexican people because at the time they were the predominant users. Just one more incidence of justice in the land of the free. I only wish that it were easier to come by once you become a senior citizen. Incidentally, it is a great self medicating treatment for those aches and pains you feel as you get older......smoke on

In my opinion, smoking pot is one of those things that rebellious youth do (like cigarettes and booze), which is usually a passing phase, then you move on. For those that did not or could not move on and became chronic recreational users, many have lost some brain cells along with their motivation. However, I am open to medical use for documented chronic, intractable pain.

I think MJ was much less potent in the olden days when I imbibed. My 17 year old son is currently enjoying this recreational activity. I do not feel it is hypocritical of me to tell him no. I have grown and seen the damage it can do to some.
My ex-husband stopped for 30 years and recently started up again and I can see it is frying his mind. Totally chages his personality. It is having many adverse effects on my son, but my biggest worry is not the MJ but that it will make him a prime candidate for more potent substances or cause him legal problems.

Today's drugs differ tremendously from back in the day...much more potent; much more prone to tampering and additives like PCP to Cannibis.

I am totally against Marijuana Smoking - as a former drug counselor I have seen the devastation it has wreaked on teens and it's not called the gateway drug for no reason.

You are just the same as your friends. That's why you all hang together. Sooner or later, you will be just like them. That's the way it happens. I once thought like you do.

The major difference between then & now is knowledge. We had none. You have much, yet you still ignore it & throw yourselves to the wolves of the drug world
.
Pot doesn't kill...the people involved with it do.
Pot just numbs your brain so you think it's all a joke.
That's all I have to share.
I wish you all the best in your lives.

As silly as it may be, pot is illegal. If one smokes pot, one has to be prepared for the adverse consequences of getting caught. Those consequences could be life-altering.

Additionally, anything can be abused. Pot, alcohol, food, medications, you name it, someone can abuse it. If something one does starts to interfere with the things in life that are important, it becomes a problem.

If smoking pot can become a problem, it should be avoided. Life is tough enough without self-created problems.
