Walnut shell is a dangerous substrate for any reptile due to the risk of impaction. He might or might not be able to pass it. Watch for signs of intestinal obstruction, such as decreased appetite and no pooping. Use a soil or soil/sand mix for savannahs.

Get rid of the walnut shells. It is THE WORST substrate you can use. When it gets wet, it cakes up and will clog up your reptile.

He should probably be alright, just make sure he is drinking and be sure to soak him.
