please help me i cant find this answer anywhere!!!!!!

I found a website that has some good pictures. The Egyptians used (and still do use) the shadoof, a dipping bucket on a pole, and a water-wheel to raise water out of the river and bring it up to the field. The pictures are down at the bottom of this website.

They had a contraption called a shaduf which was a system of buckets and levers which could be operated by one man or a donkey .
This would dip into the river then the bucket would be raised by leverage and the water poured into irrigation channels.
This system still exists in some places but it is mostly done by mechanical pumps now

Water was gradually pumped using a variety of pumps and waterwheels, gradually raising the water into higher and higher fields.

Also they had several reservoirs upstream, providing water at higher levels.
