"Don we now our gay apparel" had a very different meaning, when it was written. it was intended to express the type of dress, one would exhibit during the Christmas season.

I think the original words of the song were lost and some fool just filled it in with the Fa la las and the listeners liked it. But honestly, if ya don't know the words then I don't want to hear it. ; )

I really don't think so. Keep in mind that times back then were much different. I feel it meant that they are now wearing their festive clothing. Kind of if you will a celebration of the season.

come on, think about it back when the song was written gay meant fun or something good, as opposed to today where it means a type of person, myself i try to avoid!
