Someone sent me this powerpoint awhile back. I found it quite touching. Is it true for the most part?

That is one of the most profoundly depressing presentations that I have ever seen. Not to be a Pollyanna, but I believe the world has constantly become a better place to live over the last few centuries. Naysayers will always find reasons for alarm but science and technology keep solving problems and improving our daily lives.
I remember some pretty dire predictions about the environment made in the 1960's that just did not happen.
The environment should be taken seriously but false pessimism serves little purpose.
