Let me just say this about spiders....None of them are poisonous!!!! However, except for a select few, they are all venomous. There is a difference, and the reactions caused by these venoms differs based on the spider and the individual.

Most spiders are only mildly venomous and local reactions, similar to a bee sting should be expected. However, there are a few spiders (three in the US) whose venom's are toxic enough to cause serious reactions. These are, in order of toxicity.....

1) Widow Spiders (Tangle Web Spiders) which include the Black and Brown Widow Spiders. These spider's venoms are 10 to 15 times more potent than a Rattlesnake's.

2) Recluse Spiders, which include the Brown Recluse. A cousin to this spider known as the Hobo Spider has a venom which is similar. Necrosis (soft tissue damage), although not common is capable from the toxins in the spider's venom.

3) Yellow Sac Spider. They are not true Sac Spiders, but have a venom as toxic as the Brown Recluse and are more likely to bite than the Brown Recluse. Fact is, many spider bites blamed on the Brown Recluse may have actually been caused by a Yellow Sac Spider. Brown Recluse Spider bites are almost painless, and symptoms do not occur until the spider is long gone. Thus, bites from this spider are hard to identify.

Most venomous spider in the world...Brazilian Wandering Spider. Highly venomous and extremely aggressive.

Most dangerous spider in the world...Sydney Funnel Web Spider. Extremely toxic venom to humans, also very aggressive. The big difference between the Brazilian Wandering Spider and the Sydney Funnel Web Spider is where they live. The Wandering Spider lives in remote areas of the Amazon Jungles and rarely come into human contact, whilst the Sydney Funnel Web Spiders live in more populated areas and are much more likely to come into human contact.

Since an anti-venom has been developed for both of these spider's toxins, deaths are rare from their bites.
