That is pure affection. If u were a child, your firend would have hugged u or even given u a kiss on the cheek or forehead, maybe because of the age, just patted you.
U r lucky to have a gud friend.

If you, or your friend is of Asian or Middle eastern descent, it is a very insulting gesture. It means that you are below the station of the person patting you on the head - well below their station.

If you are of other ethnic persuasion, then it may not mean a whole lot.

it depends on what happened before the "pet". I've been petted on the head for the fact she just wanted to see if she could touch me and get away with it. she took off as soon as she did it.

Usually, between friends, a sign of endearment. But it can also be condescending since it seeks to suggest you are - or act like - a child.

It happens when friends get together they let their guards down because they know with out question they can truly be themselves. unles you think this person wantd to be more than a close friend don't fret over it to much.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Sometimes we do things just because and with no meaning or thought at all. If you're still uneasy as to why ask!
