Sometimes my car starts right up but other times it will just crank over and not start? Would a loose battery connection be the cause of the car cranking over but not starting, or is it something else like the alternator or starter? Thanks

You are correct.Make sure the battery posts are clean and tight. With the engine running test for approximately 13.5 to 15.5 volts at the battery. If this range of voltage is present with the engine running, your alternator is GOOD.If you do not have a tester ,take it to auto zone and they will test for free. They can also test your battery for proper cranking amperage. It could be a carbureted problem with the float.

If the vehicle engine is cranking when you try to start it up that solves the problem of the battery and cables, they're doing what they should. The problem is electrical or fuel. the easiest way to find out is to go to Auto Zone and have them run their free OBII test, or better known as (On Board Diagnosis II) II = 2. This will tell you in minutes where the problem lies. Usually in this time of year FUEL.

If the car won't start after sitting overnight and the engine is cold it could be a temp sensor for the computer.
If it won't start after sitting a while and the motor is still warm leaky injectors could be the problem. Try holding the gas pedal down if that's the case and see if it starts easier.
I'm taking it for granted that the engine has had a tune up already.

If it IS cranking, then it is more than likely your fuel pump, better get it replaced before it shuts down for good when your away from home...

remember to change the fuel filter too

sounds more like a fuel problem . or possible spark plugs
if electric was bad it would not crank over!
