No, Britain is not jealous.
And try looking at the national debt your "rich" country is in!

It all depends on what you mean by Britain and the British people. We are no longer totally a European race of people with a predictable majority view on U.S. matters.

In my lifetime we British once regarded Americans as our foreign cousins and they mutually regarded us as such. We are proud that we were joined in fighting two wars together, despite the fact that the Americans were a little late in being dragged into those wars. We admired their democracy, which was prompted by our own historic democracy.

Jealous of America? I'm sure my indigenous British contemporaries are not. Long may we work together to help put wrongs to right under the auspices of the United Nations.

Shame on the BBC if they create division between us but it is noticeable that they often "get their knickers in a twist" in trying to portray the United Kingdom. After all, they are just a broadcasting company and not an official mouthpiece of the British people or its government.

No. I dont think so. Im an american living in london, and for the most part the british seem proud of who they are. The BBC thing was only a joke so dont take things too seriously.

As for the Boston Tea Party...well...we were just REALLY thirsty and only your english tea would suffice.. : )

Its been ages since that happened, both our countries should let it go...

The standard of english grammar used by this person leads me to believe that he is not really British.
I think you are deluding yourself if you think America is the richest country. The wealth seems to be concentrated in the hands of a certain type of crooked businessman.
We hear of financial scandal after financial scandal. Enron the biggest bankruptcy in world history and now the sub-prime mortgage which is causing economic diffuculties to banking systems all over the world not to mention the thousands of Americans who are being evicted from their homes.
Jealous? I don't think so.

It's called a joke. I for one tell my American friends that throwing TEA over the side of a ship the Boston tea party was a blight on an otherwise civilised Nation

i've never heard that, but it sounds funny! is Britain jealous of America being the richest country? What makes you think American IS the richest country? Better take another look at the international financial situation before you make a claim like that. i don't believe Britain is jealous at all - but it seems as though Yanks don't have much of a sense of humor.....

England is neither mean nor jealous on the contrary England is very proud of themselves, and remember that when you buy a pound you need 2 DOLLARS, the other thing is that the americans like the english accent.

1) I haven't seen the show, but it sounds like the announcer is joking--so much for subtle British humor.

2) A lot of Americans living in Europe working for American corporations are now paid in Euros while the Brits and the French come to New York to shop for bargains, so no they aren't jealous.

No, I don't think Britian is jealous, why would they be. I think the BBC was just making a joke, unless they're still carrying a grudge. Huh??

No, they are not jealous. They just do have a sense of humor :)
And America is not the richest country, the OPEC countries are.

They also call their cigarettes fags, and some here refer to homosexuals as queens. Go figure..hehehe

I am an American and regular watcher of the BBCA. I think the "disclaimer" is meant as a joke and I take it as such. I don't know how you could have read jealousy into a bit of humor. Get a grip!
