My friend in Guatemala has tortoises and i was wondering what kind are they?

I don't think they are actually tortoises. They look like "wood turtles" which are native to the area. They would be in the genus Rhinoclemmys, but I can't identify the exact species.

I agree with Thea, those are definitely not tortoises, they have front and rear toes and the dome of the shell is wrong- too strong of a central ridge. They also have plastrons that move- one of them in each photo is closing up like a box turtle would- tortoises cannot do that.

I think wood turtles as well.
