p^2-7p+12, or 1p^2-7p+12

First: multiply the 1st & 3rd term to get 12. find two numbers that give you 12 when multiplied & -7 (2nd term) when added/subtracted. the numbers are (-3 & -4). Rewrite the expression with the new middle terms.

p^2 - 3p- 4p + 12

Sec: 4 terms - group "like" terms & factor both sets of parenthesis.

(p^2 - 3p)- (4p + 12)
p(p - 3)- 4(p - 3)

Third: the inner terms (in parenthesis) need to match. combine the inner terms (once) with the outer terms.

(p - 3)(p - 4), or (p - 4)(p - 3)
