I don't mean just any life, we know there's microbe based life out there. That's a long way from thinking the earth was flat and the stars revolved around us.

Do you think there's Intelligent life out there? If not, bring the variable of time in the equation. Do you think there was other intelligent life at one time before we existed? Or maybe there will be other intelligent life after the human species dies off?

The simple answer is "we don't know".

However, you can formulate your own guess as to the number of intelligent civilizations in our galaxy using the Drake equation:

We do not know if there is other intelligent life out there. Our planet is one tiny speck in the universe and we only explored about 2, the moon and the Earth.

We do not know how big the Universe is and based on that, there might be millions of other solar system like ours tha might have planets that contain life.

We do not know if there is life out there because maybe those aliens doesn't have the curiosity to explore things farthere than their planets or maybe they have been here but they visited during the stone age and left no clue that they even exist and the aliens think that the cavemans were not smart enough to discover them.

Maybe if we stop using technology to observe things out there and start using technology to explore like going to Mars or start using technology to enhance the speed of out travel.

If we have spaceship that can travel in light speed or maybe even faster. Maybe we could go to other planets that can support the temperature that we have here on Earth.

I stress from the start that this is my own educated guess. Given what we know about the enormous vastness of the Universe, the real miracle would be that there WASN'T other intelligent life out there somewhere. On the other hand, given what we know about ydda yadda vastness yadda, it's unlikely in the extreme that we'll ever get to meet any of them.I do NOT believe that ETs are visiting us and taking random hicks on unscheduled vacations or trying out new steak tartare recipes, or doodling in wheat.
Considering the evolution of life here on Earth, the most likely for of animal life to be found will be , in the vernacular, "bugs". The vast majority of animal species on Earth are Arthropods or Crustaceans. Say what you want about Intelligent Design - if there is a dessigner, he/she/it is inordinately fond of beetles.

If you believe in certain religious teachings, then we were created in God's image.

The teachings say nothing about God maybe creating other beings some place else in the Multiverse, just how we came into existence.

If we are in God's image, then he (or she) is an intelligent being ... that's assuming you believe we are intelligent.

If you believe in Evolution, then there was a process by which life began on our planet, because of conditions on our planet that were right for this to happen.

When we look out at info about other stars, other galaxies, it seems probable that the same conditions that led to our carbon-based life forms to be formed here, would also come into existence on an infinity of other planets elsewhere in the universe. Then there is the theoretical possibility of life forms other than those based on carbon cycle.

Thus, if you believe in Evolution, or in the religious alternatives, either way, it stands to reason that we are not alone in the universe.

Can we find our neighbors, or evidence they are out there? Aside from UFOlogy, in which the evidence there would seem to indicate that if any of that stuff is believeable, the UFOs are not space travelers, but time travelers, or visitors from another dimension.

Consider this ... what we know about Physiics ... if there are any star ships out there traveling close to the speed of light, they will show up as blue shift artifacts in the sky if they are coming towards us, and as red shift if they are headed away. We have seen countless red shift, and speculated that what we are seeing have natural astronomy explanations.

Because of our atmosphere, we cannot see blue shift from planetary observatories. Telestocpes in orbit would have to look for them. Because of the speculative nature of this theorizing, and serious competition for funds for outer space research, I do not believe anyone is looking for blue shift yet.

Then there is SETI. Assumption there is that intelligent life out there would broadcast in a manner that is intelligible to us, in ways we could intercept.

This presupposes they are friendly. If I was an intelligent being a few light years from Earth, listening in on our radio & TV broadcasts, I might be horrified at what I was digesting & conclude this is a species in need of a cosmic bullet.

A cosmic bullet is something fired at close to the speed of light aimed at our Sun, purpose being a level of disruption such as to wipe out our civilization.

You know the more we thinking your way and question about other life in the universe the more inhuman we become.

It's like we're indirectly ignoring what's on earth running away to find other life somewhere, hoping it's better. Well, they say the grass always looks greener on the other side.

An advice to you, try find a human being you can help make his/her life better. Earth needs you and your intelligence now more than ever.

Mr. M,

Here is a thought... On a daily basis we on Earth find new forms of life and new species. Where they already here or did they come from somewhere else? Were we just not looking hard enough? The universe is a very large place and to say that we are the only life forms in the universe would be very close minded. For the people that are religious... If GOD decided to place other life forms on other planets and not mention it in the Bible... who are we to question GOD's actions. He does not answer to us!!!

The universe is a large vast place while there has been no proof that other intelligent life exists it would be unlikely that some doesn't since it so large and vast.

Another thing to even look at is our own solar system. There has been counts of where there have evidence that liquid water even existed on Mars at one time. What may even happen is as our own sun burns out, a process that takes several million years, that life started on the further most planets as the life died out on the further planets it began on the inner most one that could sustain life. In a few more million years Earth may not be too cold to sustain life and then life will "begin" on Venus. I don't mean we jump on spaceships and go to Venus. What I mean is life starts as it did millions of years in Earth through organisms and such

We don't even know the actual size of the Universe! All we know is our little corner and we haven't even fully explored it (We've only been to our own moon!!!).
Of course there is life, intelligent life, elsewhere in the universe. Are we really that self centered to believe that humans are the only "intelligent" ones out there?

Don't be so pompus, the difference between humans and their Chimpanzee brothers is a mere %2 of DNA.

There is a FEDERAL LAW restricting communication with an EXTRATERRESTRIAL BEING (aka alien). WHY would there be a federal law written against this activity if they did not exist? I don't see federal law's written restricting communication with Jesus Christ or Santa Clause.

Open your mind, read a book, and for god sakes, stop believing everything your teachers tell u!

I know!
I have a book sitting right next to me that describes in detail that there is life off the Earth, and that these life-forms are far more advanced than we. Its called the Bible. Read it sometime and you'll find out that the zillionjs of dollars we're spending on robots and space probes and giant rockets...looking for the microbes...is a waste and should be spent back here on Earth, to benefit earthlings!
