I'm almost 50, and I haven't had my monthly for a couple months. I think I'm loosing it sometimes. (my mind) I'm so miserable. Please help me get through this. I think it's perimenopause. I don't want to be this way.

hey girl, be careful with some of the herbal stuff- if you are already moody or irritable, some of the stuff from the health food store can actually make it worse.I had a very bad reaction to the topical hormone cream that was recommended to me,it's not for everyone.
I am in menopause now,and it's been going on for a while- I had a tough time with mood swings and irritability at first, that DOES level off,and now I'm just gettin' through the hot flashes as best I can.I've learned to ride em out.
no HRTs for me;I am already at risk for several cancers, and have had one.

I know how you feel, I was having a lot of menopausal symptoms at 47 yrs and feeling terrible, but couldn't get the doctors to do anything because they wanted to get my thyroid straightened out first and also because of my age. Finally I got a OBGYN that did testing and I found I wasn't in perimenopause (it usually lasts several years), I was postmenopausal! I had suffered all those years with no help and no one to listen to me. My mom went through the same thing, due to early menopause.

Get a good doctor that you can talk to and who will listen to you and give you the right tests to see where you are along the way to menopause. Then you and he/she can decide how you want to proceed with treatment options. I've taken both prescription and OTC meds at different times, now I'm 51 and I don't take anything and the only symptoms I have are hot flashes, which I deal with. Even though it can be different for everyone, many of us go through the same things. Being well informed is the best advice I can give, this will help you a great deal.
My best wishes to you!

You will be just fine even though you dont feel like that right at this moment.

My worst problem was hot flashes and that was partly due to the fact that I refused the hormones for very good and personal reasons. If you want to know email me.

Look into the herbal treatments as I have heard that so many women have done so well with them. I did not use anything. However I did go through 2 years of wearing nothing but a think gown, ac on all winter and summer and all ceiling fans on high.

If the herbals dotn work for you then see a doctor, they have meds that can help you out.

Good Luck.

Hmm never affected me that way. I thought it was a myth for nasty people to just let it all out - I would advise you to see a doctor. Most women I talk to dont experience all the old wives tales (i think they are old men's tales myself) and horror stories one hears about menopause. Its a natural event in the cycle of life, thats all it is - there are products you can use like soya and tofu nuts etc. Its really not a horror show, yes you can have hot flashes, some memory loss, feel weepy at times, feel more tired - but you dont turn into Jeckyl and Hyde

Dont assume just because you are 50 that an abrupt personality change is menopause, it could be a lot of other and potentially serious medical conditions causing this -

You do need to get a check up asap

Having gone into Full surgical menopause at 37 (I am 66 now and have been on Premarin 29 1/2 years) You are low on estrogen. I will make you depressed and Cranky.

This will not get better, without estrogen, we just get worse.

I am not a sane person without my Premarin.

Go get tested at your Ob. Gyns. Perhaps he or she can get you onto something to help you out. A simple blood test will tell your estrogen levels.

Good Luck, with the meds you will be sane again.

When I hit 50, I got tired of kissing peoples' donkeys. I had always been a nice person, still am, but tired of taking their poop.

Be careful of Premarin. Some of these remedies can increase your risk of breast cancer. Plus, they make it from the urine of pregnant mares, which are kept in a stalls & inseminated again & again. I don't know what they do with the foals. You can check this out for yourself if you don't believe me. I can only guess that the woman promoting it works for the drug co.

Get thee to a Dr. - sounds like a combo menopause and depression to me! If you have been taking the same meds for depression etc. for a long time - it maybe time for a change! But take heart - you have a new Grand baby on the way - and he should cheer you immensely. But please do seek professional medical help - depression is a real bummer! CJ

The evening primrose thing that justme suggested is a very good idea. I have been taking it for some years now, and had no symptoms. It also does wonders for you skin! Also take soya as it is a natural source of oestrogen.

Deep breath. You will be okay. Parts of it really suck. Hot and then cold. And tired all the time. Hang tough and take some black cohosh or something. Estroven is also good at walmart pharmacy.
