Yes, they get salary and benefits. Salary depends on the university and how many years of residency you've finished. From what I've read it averages $40,000 - $50,000. For example, here's the salary information for radiology residents at Oregon Health and Science University (PGY2 AND PGY5 mean post-graduate year 2 and 5):
"Resident salaries in 2006-2007 range from $44,080 for a PGY2 to $51,780 for a PGY5 resident."

Another e.g.:
The University of Tennessee: Salary for 2006-2007 academic year: PGY1: $42,540, PGY7: $51,540.
(^ I guess year 7 is that final fellowship year)

Radiologists don't do surgery, but Interventional radiologists perform nonsurgical treatments for a number of medical conditions, most commonly vascular disease. Examples of these treatments include angioplasty, thrombolysis, atherectomy, embolization of bleeding vessels and occlusion of brain aneurysms. Interventional radiologists perform these procedures under the guidance of x-rays, magnetic resonance or other imaging methods.
