I started doing a poem (including it in my Christmas card) 12 years ago and my family loves to get them every year. In fact, one year when I didn't do a poem (I was in the process of a divorce and didn't feel like it that year), several family members said that they'd missed my poem in my card. Tell me what you think.
Aloha!
Mele Kalikimaka to one and to all.
Let me tell you about our year -- we’ve been having a ball!
In January we sang Happy Birthday To You
and took Sam to try something totally new.
He swam with the dolphins on his sixth birthday
and we had ice cream sundaes at the Hard Rock Cafe!
February was exciting! We moved to a new home
and Sam learned to ride a two wheeler all on his own!
I didn’t have to help him; somehow he just knew.
He got on his friend’s bike and then off he flew!
Tim came over in March so that I could go
to a conference on Oahu with some people I know.
We went there for work but we had some fun too --
going shopping and clubbing. I love Honolulu!

Back to the Big Island Sam and I went in May
to see my friend Tanya on her 40th birthday!
The highlight of the trip was going to Volcanoes National Park
and seeing the lava hit the ocean
when everything else was dark.
Molten hot rock of 2000 degrees
Flowing down the mountain and into the sea.
It lit up the mountain and made everything bright.
The creation of new land -- what an impressive sight!
Sam had some big news in June -- I swear it’s the truth
After wiggling and wiggling, he lost his first tooth!
He was fearless (I wasn’t)! But to Sam, no big thing.
He slammed the door and there it was!
His little tooth on a string.
We had a nice summer: bbqs, camping, getting a tan.
And on the last day of July, first grade began!
Sam loves school this year and he’s doing so well.
He can read, do addition, tell time and spell.
Our lives have been filled with sports of all kinds --
first it was soccer; now it’s T-ball time!

We went back to Oahu twice more as well
for my birthday and a concert at the Waikiki Shell!
We love living here -- Kauai is great!
Why don’t you come see us in 2008?
Aloha and Merry Christmas!
