schwester: that sucks! I would be mad as hell too. But don't base jamaica on the vendor encounters..they try to do the same thing with us jamaicans too! TRUST ME! It's just that we already know the game! But unfortunately since you were a tourist..you didn't know! So sorry to hear that!

schwester: I'm so happy you look at jamaica in a new light. And oh yes, I do know about sex tourism! Some people look at it as disgraceful..but I find it rather...amusing!

I'm kind of happy that the men are the sex slaves! It's always the women that end up being whored out! In jamaica, it is different..the men are whored out! LOL!! How funny!

Because they rip peopeol off, no matter what!
I am a single mom, very honest and just looking on the bright side of life...i went on a cruise and we stopped in Jamaika.
My first time. I took a walk and i found a guy who sold nice big shells he dove out of the ocean. I liked them a lot and asked him if they are for sale. He said, of course, named me a price (25$ i believe) and i specificly asked him several times if they are not protected by the (i can´t think of the englisch name, in german , Artenschutzgesetz) he was outraged and said no, there are sooo many in the ocan and it is not a problem to take them home with me (along with the pot he offerd me, which i did not want).
Back at the customs in Europe, Germany, i got in so much trouble for bringing a protected Shell and had to pay a huge fine....

And another thing, i don´t know if you are aware of this,
all over the world, Jamaica is not only know for it´s drug abuse, it is also known for women s-e-x traveller tourism....i bet what they bring home is even less worse than my fine...

@ Goddess
You know what girl, there is so much wrong meaning in this world up until this day...the americans all eat burgers, the germans are all nazis (even in my age wher i was not even born) , the swedish are p-orn stars, the italian eat only pizza and are the best lover´s in the world, bla..bla...bla...
We are all grown up (i hope) and should not listen to all this precast voices.
I tell you what, i would go to Jamaica, because the Flora and Fauna is beautiful and i like the Beat and most of the Peopel!!
There is good and bad everywhere!!!

I've visited Jamaica twice and liked it a lot. The beaches are beautiful (Montigo Bay) and the people are very friendly to tourists (but, I don't know what they say behind our backs). One thing that takes getting used to is their "later mon" attitude. They do not place any value on punctuality at all.

Most of the crime there is Jamaican on Jamaican. It happens, but not too often that a tourist becomes a crime victim. When it does occur, the tourist usually did something very stupid and put themself at risk.

I've spent some time in Southern Florida and noticed something odd. The American blacks there hate the Jamaicans and Haitians. It's because these immigrants work very hard and become successful. It shows American blacks up and they are jealious. Moreover, the immigrant's success deprives them of the white racism excuse as to why they are not successful.

I know what you mean. Most of these people that are hating on Jamaica has never been there and most of the things that they hear and say about us are just stereotypes. They assume that once you come from Jamaica you have to be black which is not the case and that everyone from Jamaica smokes ganga which I don't. I have never smoked in my life.Another stereotype is that you have to be rasta.Crime is not only in Jamaica,it is everywhere. No where is safe in today's world.

Who's hating on Jamaica? From my impression, Jamaica has become a "cool" place. Everything is Jamaican now. Just go into Journeyz!

i live in the usa and i just came back from ochios rios, and i loved it there, however it is a shock at first because the vendors can be pushy and my husband and i were not used to being offered weed lol, also some of the cruiselines pulled out of kingston because the passengers were getting robed.
its like any other place if you are smart then you are ok

also to aims.. jamicia is its own country not part of the usa.. puerto rico is a us terriotory meaning it is not a state, and therefore they dont have the right to vote, however the citizens voted not to become a state

They just think that because Jamaicans are not the wealthiest people in the world they all have to be criminals. I hear one person say that we were like so 'third world and all' so she has to stay on the resort.... loser!

i do not believe the people who hate on jamaica are really wanting to ask a travel question... maybe people are just out to distort our image cause if they really hated us so.. who would be curious about coming here anyway?

JAMAICA RULES!

I am not one of those people and just in case they read this I love Jamaica, the people, food, music, culture, history, scenery, weather, sunsets, crafts, way of life, the accent, the vibe, its eyrie! (think thats what they say!) So any way if you are put off going by negative comments dont be because its a beautiful place and the people are mainly beautiful too.

I have nothing against Jamaica myself, but it might be crime rate and that whole thing about being us citizens but not being able to vote, or maybe I'm thinking of Puerto Rico, i know they're not the same but I learned about both in like 7th grade and now it's all fuzzy so...yeah.
