His options are then:
1. Evict a good paying tenant (assuming you are one).
2. Raise the rent an unreasonable amount to encourage you to leave.
3. Do nothing.
Options 1 and 2 are stupid for the landlord, unless he just doesn't like you and would be happy to see you go in any case.
You have power too. Yes, you depend on the landlord letting you live there, but he also needs you to pay rent.

by law,there is nothing you can do,you can move.at this point i must say that something must have happen,after 5 yrs he brings up a lease,as a landlord i can tell you that i have run into many setuations where changes had to be made,even raiseing the rent to force a renter out,sorru that is how it is,only you,your landlord and roommate know what is really going on,try to work it out,or move.good luck

Well honestly...you should have already sat down w/ him/her & discussed your situation on the lease for a reasonable agreement.But seeing as how it's been so long you are gonna have to find a lawyer who work's pro-bono...(free) if you can't afford it,then take it from there...good luck!!!.

You either sign the lease and abide by it's terms...or move. No one can "force" you to sign anything...it's your choice.
