Only time (and of course, your body's defences) will cure the cold. Of course, you should get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
I take Nyquil before I go to bed.
Chicken soup really does seem to help.
You can take a lemon, juice the entire thing, add honey and hot water.
I also drink plenty of bourbon, whiskey, or brandy. Yes, I know I should not do this, particularly with the Nyquil, but I do it anyhow! (And yes, it does make me feel better.)

Vicks vap o rub on your throat and chest every night for the first several days. It loosens all of the ick.
Drink clear warm fluids. Stay off dairy, as it congests the mucus and makes it harder to clear.
Rest as much as possible. Wear your warm flannels and take something for the cold every 4 hours even aspirin will keep your feeling better. Keep plenty of tissues and chicken noodle soup in the house. Good Luck.
PS: They generally last 10 days no matter what you do.

Try a hot toddy or two... a nip of whisky (or similar spirit, brandy etc) a teaspoon of sugar and a couple of cloves... add some boiled very hot water stir and then drink, if the first doesnt work, repeat... after a while you will either be cured or wont really care you have a cold... ;-)

Not today I'm not! It's getting warmer here north of the Saint Lawrence river and the snow is melting with the April showers and today it is sunny and a balmy 22 Celsius. That's about 70 Fahrenheit south of the river.

I pprefer the two bottle method.
Take a bottle of Scotch Whiskey (or Irish for that matter)
and gradyually drink it over the day/night. When you see two bottles you are not cured but you feel as though you are

The old wives' remedy is to chew a raw strong onion............. gruesome I know........... it will bring tears to your eyes!
And that is why it actually works!
The only substance known to kill cold germs are tears!
It also clears your nose.
