He was trapped - trapped like a big, fat rat. Color that once adorned his facial structure, seeped away quickly and uncontrollably. His moment of triumph was transitory - and like a rat, he felt the pain of being caught swell within him and slacken every muscle in his body, so that he stooped in the corner - twitchy with anticipation for the outcome.

He was painted into a corner, with no way out and the look on his face told him he knew it. Next time, he would have to remember to start in the corner farthest from the door and paint towards it.

If you want to show-not-tell, you could do it metaphorically.
"The imaginary mouse trap snapped over his nose"
Some other options
"There was no way out"
"His words were meaningless, because" (his expression told the whole story)
"She/he (the person he was talking to) was not fooled;"
