No if the soap powder is meant to be used for hand washing only as the foam formed in the washing tub reduces the rinsing performance of the washing machine and results in detergent particles left on clothes at the end of the washing cycle. Some detergent can be used for both hand and washing machine but it ought to be specified on the item sold.

Maybe ... how old is the baby; what is your "regular" detergent, and what other kinds of clothing will be going in the same load? If baby has not demonstrated very very sensitive skin up until now, I would try one load experimentally with the following caveats: use the "Free" version of your regular laundry detergent ... free of perfumes, etc. It may be okay to include other items from the rest of the family ... but not clothing that would have heavy traces of your favorite perfume or workplace exposures. As an extra precaution, I would add an extra rinse cycle, and add one cup of white vinegar in place of fabric softener.

Finally, I would try this on one load of laundry and wait a couple of days before doing more. This would let you know if baby is experiencing any irritation from the standard laundry, and then go for it.

If you see redness, itchiness, rashiness ... immediately rewash baby's clothes in the regular baby laundry products: Dr*ft, Iv*ry Snow, or any of the new "natural" products out there.

Good luck ... some babies have extremely sensitive skin; others seem to be iron clad.

I wash my infant/children's clothing in regular detergent... I also use less detergent, use the extra rinse cycle and I add baking soda about 1/3 C. per load it boosts detergent cleaning power.. Plus it's super cheap... good luck
