Sadly, most people don't know what true disco is. The disco that most relate to (ie: Saturday Night Fever) is very commercialized. True disco erupted out of the basement and loft parties in Greenwhich Village and Soho. Dj's would mash-up the beats of old Motown and soul and mix it with the snares and guitars of rock and roll.

If disco truly sucks, it's because as pop culture often does with most underground movements, it exploits and twists it into something perversely alluring. It draws the deviants and demented in normal society towards it like moths to the flame. Eventually, these people get burned and the fallout begins.

Disco was state of mind. It was there before the '70's it is here today. It's people coming together and dancing and leaning towards the cusp of losing control. This phenomenon occurred with jazz, it occurred with rock 'n' roll, it occurs today with the rave.

I always liked Disco and the beat it has. I have about 2 dozen Disco songs on my MP3. Why did people say it suck I have no idea. But some good songs came from that era.
