if 5.0 moles of Al react with excess O2, how many moles of Al203 can be formed?

it's mean from 4 mol Al ----> 2 mol of Al2O3
now 5.0 mol divide by 4 then multiply by 2

If you divide the reaction equation by 4, then you have 1 mole of Al on the left side, 3/4 mole of O2 and one half (2/4) mole of Al2O3. Therefore, if you have 5.0 moles of Al, you will get 5 halves (5/2) moles Al2O3.

It's proportional so if in the balanced equation 4 mol of Al makes 2 mol of al2o3, then you can see that the mol of al was divided be two. So if 5 moles of Al reacted with oxygen, then 5/2 (=2.5) moles of Al2O3 could be formed.

If that didnt make sense, you can set up a proportion and solve.
4/2 = 5/x
