MADD started here in the US.

There have always been prohibitionist sentiments, as per constitutional amendments and each state has had the right to set its own drinking age. it was 18 in many states until the federal government linked highway money to the establishment of a 21 drinking age in the 80's. I think Louisiana was the last to cave in and they have some of the worst roads in the country.

so, it is because of anti-drinking elements of special interest bullying the congress to make it the way it is now.

The US government, being the paternalistic entity that it is, has decided that the legal drinking age should be 21. The federal government maintains the drinking age by telling states that if they lower the drinking age, they'll be given less federal money for transportation.

Its 18 in Canada (except Alberta) and most other countries.

Many Americans are still very conservative. Its considered taboo to talk to children in America about beer. Because of that, kids want to rebel and have what they know they shouldn't. As a result, many American kids grow up abusing their consumption of alcohol.

every county different, answer me this? why can you die for you country at 18 and cant drink a beer till your 21? sometime wrong with that one, they need to raise the military age to 21....

I had joined the military when I was 18, was old enough to die for my country but was not allowed to buy smokes and booze. Its amazing how things are viewed by some....

Because that's what the governments of those countries have chosen to make the law.

because the USA is a nanny state that claims governments role is to protect its citizens from themselves
