Blue is a color the cops dont like to share while I have rode around with mine on I have also been pulled over and givin a "next time" warning. They can't say nothing about em if they just on while your parked up in a lot though. Given my druthers I'd go ahead and lay out for the HD version or some other top quality line like Kuryaken. But you can get by on the cheap auto zone stuff. Use however many you think it takes to light up what you want. More the merrier usually.

Buy and install some good old fashioned "blue dots." I have ridden with them for years and have NEVER had a problem with the law concerning the dots even though they are not legal in the state where I live.

I got mine from L.E.D Lights International, they're in Indiana.
I have 4, 4 light clusters under my tank and it lights my polished motor up real nice.
Got 8, 4 light clusters on the old lady's bike ( pink)
Seems like the blue ones throw off more light.

If I remember right, it isn't legal to use blue LEDs because they are restricted to law enforcemant vehicles. I put blue light covers on a VW pan buggy I had several years ago, and I got a ticket for having them.
