I own two, 2001 Galant 4cyl., ES Models. The first I purchased new and I have 97,900 miles on the car. My son used the car for college and after graduation I got the car back. This is one of the most trouble free cars I have owned.
I change the oil myself and use synthetic oil I installed one set of tires and brakes. The only major expense was replacing the timing belt and water pump at the same time along with a new serpentine belt. Cost was $630.00. The only com[plaint is a little more power but I don't drive fast and the trunk could be larger.

The second Galant I bought used for my second son. The car had 46,000 miles and I was in excellent condition. I replaced the timing belt, etc at 60,000 miles per the owners manual. This is very important you can have major engine failure if not done. I purchased this Galant because of the reliability of the first new Galant. The Galants aren't fancy cars but very reliable and easy to service.

My mileage on the highway is 30/31 and combined 24/25.

Good Luck.

If you are buying either a 4 or 6 cylinder you should be aware that at 60,000 miles a major maintenance is due which includes: timing belt replacement, major tune up, changing the automatic transmission oil and spin on filter(if it has one it's located on top of the trans housing) Check for records on file at the dealer it was originally purchased from or ask for receipts from a private owner. If it was not done get the seller to lower the price by $700.00 as that is a close estimate for qualified factory work. The brakes usually need replacing under normal use at 45,000 miles.
Mitsubishi makes a decent vehicle and all models are fun to drive.
P.S. The only model that was made with Chrysler was the Eclipse GS up to 1999 and had the neon motor in it. The Eclipse GTS and GSX had Mitsy motors. The Galants are all Mitsubishi.

"We" isnt very descriptive, how mechanically inclined are you. The car is all ready 8 years old so if you have to pay for maitenance and repairs the money you save buying used will quickly get spent in repairs. Especially with Japanese parts being much more costly than parts for U.S. cars. Mitsubishi's are not known for their reliability and the few friends I have known with them had constant problems. That being said you can never be sure with a used car all you can do is play the averages, check consumer reports used car ratings, and spend money on an inspection before you buy.

this may be a topic-unfastened subject with the two.4L motor. in case you ever spray any liquid (like carb sparkling) in the throttle physique you will very just about easily short the IAC motor. the genuine sting lies in the actuality that that circuit will additionally (ninety% of the time) short a circuit in the PCM besides. The motor will run large, it only wont idle. you are able to restoration this your self (not the suitable way, in spite of the shown fact that it's going to artwork), only get a 10mm socket and wrench and unfasten the two 10mm bolts on the decrease back of the consumption manifold that carry stress on the throttle cable collectively as the motor is working. Slowly pull stress on the cable till you get your idle up around 1000RPM and then comfortable the two bolts backpedal. you are able to desire to have a intense idle and burn some extra gas, yet you heavily isn't out 1300 dollars.

I know it was engineered and manufactured in a plant that was used between a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. It has a Mitsubishi Engine that is known for head gasket problems and a Chrysler Transmission with a VERY bad track record (A604 Ultradrive). I do not recommend mitsubishi products.
