I have been trying to figure out if I need to see a gynecologist for a couple months now.
I have been having trouble with an irregular period for the last couple months. I have been exhausted all the time and losing my hair. I also get pains in my breasts and occasionally around my ovaries. I talked to my doctor about being tired and losing my hair (hadn't realize my period problems back then) and she said maybe a vitamin deficiancy. She tested me for everything like thyroid, diabetes etc and it was all normal. She told me to check with my dermatologist about my hair (have an appt. in Jan.) I have been considering birth control to regulate my periods. Do I need to see a gyno or should I just go back to my family doctor?
BTW...I'm 18 and not sexually active. Until recently my period had ALWAYS been regular...(and I've had it since I was 12)....

A primary care physician can give a prescription for the pill if they are comfortable with doing so but because of issues with your periods being irregular I would recommend consulting a gynecologist to see what they say. They can run tests to check for other hormone imbalances such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome as one example to see if that could be causing the irregular periods and loss of hair.

Hm. I think you need to go see a gyno about the sore breasts and pain around your ovaries. There may be more testing, than just hormones, that they could do. It couldn't hurt, right?

Stress maybe? I would consult my gyno about possibly using birth control. Also, I don't think that the hair lose is having anything to do with this. but it may. talk to your gyno, and see what he/she thinks is best for you.

Hope it helps :D

I would say to go back to your General Practitioner. She knows your history & has heard your previous complaints about this. Keep at her until she figures it out or sends you to a specialist. If she does neither, find a better doctor.
