I switched from the Republican Party when the radical kristians took over. I joined with the Democrats because there's no viable other choice. Since Pat Robertson said that God had anointed George W. Bush I've never looked back.

I'm not actually registered, nor have I ever been. (In Virginia, you don't need to be to participate in primaries or elections.) My "affiliation" in the beginning was to my father. He was the smartest man I knew growing up, so I just sort of did whatever he did. He was a Republican, by the way.

Over the years, though, I've voted for several Democrats. Virginia is growing more and more blue as the days go by. But now, I'm swinging back to the right. I'm supporting Mitt Romney in this election. On the other hand, if he loses the nomination to Rudy Giuliani, then I'll vote for Hillary Clinton. At least she Admits that she's a Democrat.

During the 1980 election cycle, I changed from Democratic to Republican.

Jimmy Carter, who until recently I'd had the utmost respect for, and who I had cast my 1st vote for, had placed us in a very weakened condition.

We were waiting in line for hours for gasoline, the lowest mortgage interest rate was 18%, many folks were out of work, and we had the Iran hostige crisis at 400 plus days.

I had no idea that Reagan, would pull us out of this depression using tax cuts (ie Reaganonics), put an end to most terrorist activity, effectively end Communism at the time, etc.

Having such a positive influence in the White House, contrasted with the opposite approach of Carter, I've remained Republican.

I had a sheltered middle class upbringing, and my father was a republican. Because I didn't know any better, I voted Republican too, in my first election at the ripe old age of 18. But, once I got out on my own, all alone in the world, I learned how hard things really are for most people, and I evolved to liberalism. *sm*

To an extent. I used to side more with the Democratic Party when I was younger, until I learned about their stance on abortion, that kind of opened my eyes. Then after that, I learned more and more about the party, and I went with siding with the Republican Party.

I tried to last year. After watching re-runs of LOST IN SPACE and seeing that cute robot running around saying -"Crush,kill,destroy.Crush,kill,destroy", I had this overwhelming desire to become a NEO-CON.
Fortunately a friend intervened and asked me to visualize my life as a party loving Red Stater. The shock and terror of this thought quickly brought me back to my senses.
