Okay, we had this project in Spanish class. One of the things we were asked to do, was describe ourselvs. One of my friends said "Soy muy bonita y inteligente" which is "I'm very beautiful and inteligent." Is it okay to say something like that about yourself? I thought that was a bit snobbyish. I said I was hard-working, and I thought THAT was a little braty! Am I paranoid?

Okay, I'm sick of all this 'grow up and stop being stupid crap". I wanna know, if this is okay to say. Could I say it about myself without someone thinking I was stuck up? Also, we have learned over 200 adjetives...I am in a Honor's class with my friend....saying something about yourself was kind of a warmup to the actual project

You're being a bit too serious. The exercise was for the sake of speaking the language, so I don't think what someone says should be taken too seriously.

Its possible she was trying to be cute or funny, or it was just some of the spanish words that she knew well. Its not bad to think of yourself in a positive way, and she wasn't bragging or making a big deal about it. She could be a little arrogant, but self confidence is better than thinking poorly of yourself, right? Does she come off in a negative way, like she's stuck up, on a regular basis? If not, then don't worry about it, if she's a good friend, she's a good friend!

Well your both still learning the language, maybe thats just what she saw first or the only thing she could think of/pronounce or she might have been saying it as a bit of a joke.
loves herself a little bit though, but if thats the only thing shes done its not that bad.
lol you were being paranoid, you can say your hardworking and its not braty. Unless your really open about being lazy...

Technically, u have every right to feel paranoid, its human nature.

Of course, if she said it in a negative-put down sort of tone that also contributes. But since she is your friend, i highly doubt it was for any bad intent. It's alright to sound confident in yourself in a healthy way as long as you aren't putting anyone down or saying it in a certain tone.

She was probably just saying it for the pure benefit of the exercise, not really as an intent to sound like a snob or not. Of course, we dont watch our tone as often as we should when we talk. It happens all the time and we dont realize how we sound when we speak. It's one of our flaws as humans and its one of the major roadblocks of communication. One person says something that may not seem like anything bad to them but to the other person is an insult. This especially happens a lot when u cross languages.

You could say it about yourself as well, but its all up to the perspective of the person really and how they take it.

People are self centred and all they care about is about themselves. I think the problem is you do not think your friend is really those two things. You do not think she is smart and you do not think is good looking in comparison to yourself.

So your friend has a good self esteem is their any reason you want to bring her down to your level or maybe just maybe she just has a low spanish vocabulary.

Either way paranoid is not the word i think that best describes you Self Centred is the better fit.

Why would it bother YOU for her to say she is beautiful and intelligent? Do you feel threatened by her? Does she intimidate you? There's nothing wrong with saying nice things about yourself. How else do you learn to love yourself? I would only be arrogance if she said she was more beautiful and more intelligent than others. Perhaps that's what you heard instead of what she really said.

It just means she has a lot of confidence. I feel the same way about myself and I'm not snobby at all. Perhaps, you have low self esteem and would never say this about yourself.

if your doing a project in spanish about yourself then it might be okay to say that. But if you were suppose to have done a project on something else that would really be considered selfish and rude to her and everyone in the class.

Na you're not, unless you're lying about it and everyone knows. However, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so yes, she is a little snobbish I guess. You are not paranoid, you just don't want to be a priss and you are modest; two great qualities to have.

Have a great life
