Well...I got tired of b*tching about it, so I have boycotted anything made in China. I did go shopping today for additional Christmas decorations and I came home empty handed. Oh...well.
My suggestion to everyone I know is to either boycott the products, OR at least make a concious effort to see where something is made, then ask yourself, "Do I really need this?".
My husband looooves that I'm doing this. It saves a lot of money.
If the Government won't do anything, at least I will (and hopefully others).

I'm sorry. Are you saying Bush deregulated the toy industry? Because otherwise you might as well accuse Bill Clinton for not doing enough to regulate it.

Ever hear of Underwriters Laboratories (UL)? It's a product safety testing firm that tests all sorts of products from fire extinguishers, to lamps, to toys. Manufacturers voluntarily submit their products to UL for testing and spot inspections at manufacturing facilities. As long as everything complies, the product may bear the UL Mark, and then that opens up doors for cheaper insurance, stores willing to carry the merchandise, etc.

Notice how in the above paragraph, the word regulation or gov't wasn't mentioned once? Why does everything have to be gov't regulated, when the private industry has shown it can already do the job.

How do I know all this? I worked for UL for 10 years. I was one of the people that actually helped manufacturers prepare those labels, or provided them to them. I've gone out on those unannounced inspections to manufacturer's facilities. And I also know that UL would stop manufacturers if it found serious safety hazards. I've seen it with my own two eyes.

Do you know how irrational you sound? Any parent would be upset if a child is injured or becomes ill from a bad toy, bad food or anything else. What does this have to do with President Bush? It can and probably has happened under different administrations. Thanks

Silly cons, Clinton didn't grant China most favored trading partner. They've had that since 1979 and it's been renewed by every president since--including both Reagan and Bushes. Nord is an industry joke one of many appointed by Bush.

Just blame everything on the bush administration. Let not look at the economics, and whether government is ever efficent or if there is another solution then increasing the size of govt.
