It depends on what kind of job you are going for. Also, I'm not sure this question belongs in special education...unless of course that is the type of job you are applying for.

a resume is a brief over view of yourself. like, if i am a CEO, i wouldnt waste my time just calling anyone to apply in my company and try to find out what this person is stuffed with. resumes help me narrow down and zero in what to find in an applicant.

as for the part of the applicant, it saves you the time to explain whoever is asking what can you do for the company you are trying to apply in.

and, it helps you be placed in certain positions perfect for you.
