Everyone has something different that for them is a traditional Christmas feast. For us, Christmas and Thanksgiving are both pretty much the same, though there may be dishes at one that aren't at the other because some folks are at one but not the other. That is to say that we do a pot luck and usually folks bring the same dishes year after year.

Well, Xmas is usually a ham and sweet potatoes. The sides don't differ much from Thanksgiving. It is what is traditional in each family. I would be happy to have a Mexican feast at my table. Yum, love it.
Often seen at our table were: Broccoli rice casserole, glazed carrots, corn casserole, cheese potatoes, apple casserole, yeast rolls and butter and jam, cranberry relish, green bean casserole, some sort of Jello dish, like lime jello with Philly and nuts and celery, or lemon with pineapple and grated carrots. . Salads might be green, or again, Jello based. Pies would be pumpkin, minced meat, usually something light like lemon or strawberry, and usually some kind of unusual cake, like pistachio, or a cheesecake.
Grandma always stuffed dates and rolled them in powdered sugar. There would be homemade cookies and candy sitting around.
My family always had turkey and dressing and mashed potatoes too, in addition to the ham. One year we had duck.
Other traditions include a standing crown roast. Or seafood.
I always reserved special foods for Christmas, in this house, spagetti is an everyday thing. However, if I were invited somewhere, and that is what was offered, please pass the parmesan cheese!
One year I had had enough of turkery and ham, and I made breaded pork cutlets, double cheese potatoes, green beans with onion mushrooms and bacon. My Dad loved it, Mom not so much.
the purpose of the dinner is to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, serve or eat anything you want.
Things are so much easier now than they used to be, and so many more choices, so much variety.
It used to be that there was no restaurants open on thanksgiving or Xmas, now there is, even in my smaller town. And one can always have the meal catered, even the grocery store cooks meals, just pick it up.

The previous answer is much the same in my family. Same as Thanksgiving and everybody brings a dish they like to make and make well. When I googled traditional Christmas dinner it was basically the same turkey, Ham, mashed potatoes etc. I've never had a Christmas goose like was popular in the Charles Dickens book but there are many links available on this traditional dish.
I thought this was the most interesting link on Christmas food history... http://www.foodtimeline.org/christmasfood.html

Oh I'd love a recipe for the corn casserole!
I'll be doing likely the very same sort of meal, but I want to change it up. Not sure how yet. I think whatever the host/hostess decides to do is great, especially if its different! Adds variety and surprise to a meal, afterall its about being with people you love right? Ok, its not always the people we love at our tables but kinda hard to avoid certain people isn't it? LOL
I cook everything during the week and just reheat it on the day, saves running around and sweating to get it all cooked and served. That makes doing the cleaning up easier cuz you're less stressed.
I love Mexican food...can I come to your house? lol

For Christmas, I traditionally serve ham with sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, and green beans (or another veggie). For dessert, I typically serve cinnamon apples.
I'm really into traditions, but I guess what really matters is that the whole family is together.

We're having the traditional roast for lunch, then cold meat and salads for tea. My aunt is hosting, but naturally we'll all contribute. She doesn't actually want to do the traditional thing, but my grandmother really likes it. When I cater it's buffet style and I cook whatever I want to! I have a few favourites. I always make my Batik cake, my ham-pasta-tinned peach salad and cook the chickens my special way :) Other than that, I cook the best recipes I've discovered through the year and hope for compliments! My lavender pilaf is pretty good.

Well instead of having turkey I have spiral ham from the butcher, (10 pounder), mashed potatoes, and other side dishes.
