At my mall in the food court there are a bunch of couches you can sit on next to a coffe stand. There is a sign next to them that anyone under 19 can not sit on them. Is it illegal to discriminate solely because of age, especially if other couches are not provided for younger people?

In this case, it is legal. The benches are private property, and are on (actually in) private property. The owner may do as he or she (or it) feels necessarly to maintain the property and keep its occupants safe (and buying things)..

This would not be legal if the benches were on public property, or provided by the town.

You can to some extent fight back a bit. You can find out who owns the benches, and ask them to reconsider. You could also go to the town that the mall is in and request that a certain number of seats be provided for people under 18. You may get more of a lesson in politics than you expected. You might also get an understanding of why that sign was there.

Good luck.

Discriminating against people under a certain age is perfectly legal in ALL US States.

The only discriminbation on the basis of age that is illegal is discriminating against people over the age of 40 in an employment seting.

And as for our u . s . having the further psychological complications than the different u . s . is by using very large pharmaceutical businesses attempting to make funds, you are able to visit fantastically a lot any u . s . contained in the international and they're going to snort at upload or ADHD or 0.5 of our different BS psychological aliments. And as for basically waiting till i'm 21 to drink i am going to yet when i am going to b tried as an grownup I must have the alternative to drink if i opt for. ultimately affirming i'm an grownup at 18 yet can't drink is like the Panther giving Cam Newton $50 million to play QB for them this three hundred and sixty 5 days yet telling him he can't spend a dime.

Ah, Not sure where you are? What state? Some it is legal. They try to cut down on younger people making a place as their home. Which here in Ca. That is how it is. In Santa Barbara, you can't go to coffee shops without seeing all types of freaks hanging out in there for hours. That has been making a lot of people upset. I don't mind because I don't go in and sit. I just take out.
