My dogs were my best friends. We were a team for well over a decade. One died and a few years later the other one passed away. There wasn't any great human intervention in my life. They all have a reason for doing what they did. Which isn't a terrible thing because we are all responsible for our own actions even if we are misguided. When we are young we think there is this great importance to our being and when we start to get older we soon realize that we are running out of time. I guess if you are fortunate enough to wrestle with success then the merit system has more meaning. I find it hard to place praise on a life that was for the most part very lonely and without direction for the first 20 years.

My grandfather Downie who lived with my family for over 14 years. He encouraged me to be a great reader and writer and speller. I would read him the newspaper everyday when he was sick and he would help me with the big words. I had a college level reading ability in the second grade due to him. I loved him then and I still love him now.

aside from my parents, I give credit to a neighbor Dave D.
Dave was interested in everything. He kept clippings, books, pamphlets, videos by the ton on subjects far reaching and wide. He inspired curiosity in me, which I have had a lifetime of. He is my earth hero.
