The serial you entered registered windows. Now you need to activate it. They are not the same thing. It doesn't mean your key is invalid. If setup accepts your key, chances are it's good.

Next time the bubble pops up above the system tray (clock) that tells you to activate click on it. It should take you thru the steps.

If the bubble doesn't appear you can get to it another way:

Go to Start -> All Programs.

Above the line near the top there will be several links. Among them are Activate Windows. Click on it and follow the instructions.

instead of using the key which goes with the cd, you used some other key. Windows sees it as a hack and gives you 30 days to fix this, if you don't it will shut down. Contact Windows Support about your original "lost" key.

Good luck.

Have you tried reinstalling then letting Windows go online to activate. If you used a different serial number than the one that came with your installation disk then the CD is not linked to your hardware configuration which is how I understand activation works.

yes, go to the site download the driveby trojan that will not unlock windows for you.
This site is dangerous for you. You need to contact Micro$oft for the key to unlock windows XP.

Remember the trojan will download a key logger for you and steal as much info as you like and you will allow it!
