What ever happened to Socks?

Question

When the Clintons first lived in the white house, they had a cat.
Its name was Socks. Did George Jr. run it over or did he die of old age?

Actually, on the White House homepage, it says that Clinton gave his cat to a shelter after he left the White House.

Leads one to think that maybe old slick Willy just had the cat for the "cute, homey" image it gave him. Sad, huh.

Here is an article about the dumping of Socks, the cat... shortly after Clinton left the White House, the article was printed on the White House kids page that there was no room for Socks in the former president's plans, and that he was given to the former president's secretary.

I really hate to say this but,I think I remember the news saying something about socks getting runned over by a car. He was staying at the house of some friends of the First Daughter, and took a bad day to cross the street! When you raise a kitten,into being a full grown adult cat,there is a bond about like a family member,it sucks when you lose them.but that's just me talking again.........
